The hand is the most versatile and amazing tool people are born with. With your hands you can feel, express and build almost anything you can imagine. As part of my research I wanted to retake the hand as a direct way to interact with computing devices. The first project called Keyboard surface interaction, is an exploration of the hand as a pointing device but only while touching the keyboard's surface. This is important since we spent most of our time with our hands in the keyboard while computing and the keyboard has been shown to reduce health risks for repetitive stress dissorders like carpal tunnel. I built 3 different prototypes and with the last one is shown how a keyboard surface interaction device without any markers or other attachments on the hand of the user is feasible. This work has not been fomarlly published. I also I collaborated with Hongyi Wen to create a technique to recognize gestures in mid-air using a smartwatch's accelerometer and gyroscope data.
